I definitely got clothes back multiple times that were just as dirty as I gave them, but other times it worked just fine. It’s cheap and easy. I have certain clothing items that I will always wash myself. These are things like wool clothing, my fleece, and any really delicate items or things I can’t easily replace. Honestly the Ethique stain remover bar gets out dirt and stains better than I expected, so that thing goes with me everywhere now. I don’t always bring the Scrubba bag, and I actually didn’t bring it on my 5 months to Asia. I brought it to Patagonia for 2 month and used it about once a week. I also carry a little clothesline from Sea to Summit that works great when there’s not places to dry the clothes. #solofemaletraveler #traveltips #backpacktraveller

I’m allergic to second skin so I can’t just slap that on and ignore them for a few days. I make sure I have a bar of my unscented soap on me and find a regular lotion at a local pharmacy. How do I find artists? My go-to way is to find a local or other traveler with tattoos, ask where they get them done. Other way is word of mouth (or recommendation from you guys!!). Tailor made clothes in Hoi An, Vietnam 👗 I got custom made clothes and this is how much everything cost, the tailors I went to and what the process was like.

Our Intrepid tour leader recommended Yaly Couture where you’re each paired with a tailoring team. This is my girl Natalie! As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted with fabric in every colour you could possibly imagine. There are example tailor made outfits to choose from and lookbooks to give you inspiration – but I already went in with designs in mind: two evening dresses, a matching set and a top. Natalie took one look at the picture on my phone and went straight to choosing the fabric. We settled on this shade of green instead with Natalie insisting it looked more elegant.

Then she took me to another part of the store with EVEN MORE FABRIC TO CHOOSE FROM. This is my happy place. We looked at different coloured silk, linen and a cotton jersey for a matching set I wanted. After picking them out, she took my measurements and because of the designs were more complex, she told me to come back in 48 hours.

My first dress was $175 USD, second was $155 USD, the set was $155 and top was $75 USD. All adjustments are included in the cost. The price is higher than other tailors in Hoi An but I’m more than happy to pay it in account of their skills, talent, turnaround time, the fact it’s custom made and making sure the team are well compensated for their work than to bargain it cheaper.

Hoi An is the tailoring capital of Vietnam and I couldn’t be happier to experience this. continued thoughts & tips about overnight layovers 🤠 Though this was a fabulous night of sleep, I still won’t pack my sleeping pad just because I have an overnight layover. I can’t justify the weight or space it takes up in my bag (but if you want to, do it!!). Though I will say I saw a few people doing it on my last overnight layover when I was sleeping on tile and yeah I wished I had it then lol. I have the @Nemoequipment tensor UL pad and it’s what I use for wilderness backpacking. ✨What about safety?? Aren’t you worried someone will steal your things??✨ Honestly no. I’m in a well lit, extremely surveillanced place, with lots of other people around or typically sleeping on the floor near. All my stuff is insured (ok yeah it would suck to lose my hard drives and film) but also odds are in my favor and idk maybe I don’t care that much. I’d rather get the few hours of sleep than worry over a very low chance event occurring. I have a lock I can use for my bag, I keep the straps attached to me in some way (through my leg or arms). Also for some reason if I assess the area and don’t feel safe then I just won’t sleep. Or at least I won’t wear my headphones AND earplugs. ✨It’s cheaper✨ Spending a night on the airport replaces a night of accommodation and typically the flight that has the longer layover is cheaper... ✨Lounges??✨ This is actually my first option for airport sleep. Not all lounges have designated sleep areas, but they at least have nice couches (and free food). I get lounge access in tons of major airports through my Amex Platinum card. It is 100% worth it for me and the travel benefits I get. ✨Items I use✨ @cabeaucomfort neck pillow that I use as a regular pillow allll the time (perfect for sleeping with headphones on) @sony XM5s I’ll forever yell about how much I love these things and not to be dramatic but noise cancelling headphones changed travel for me forever @loopearplugs I have the Quiet ones for sleep (actually comfy and don’t hurt my ears) quick dry towel aka my blanket!! eye mask with eye holes (ya know so it doesn’t squish your eyes) #solofemaletraveler
