Everything is better when it’s tiny. I got this little iron with the intention of ironing my 1:4 scale clothes with, as my full scale iron proved a little tricky. But let’s be real, it’s a great little gadget to have right on your desk as it’s super compact and heats up ridiculously fast. Bias tape may be one of the most versatile things to use when sewing. You can buy bias tape pre-made, or you can make your own at home with a bias tape maker! Here are 6 ways to use it: 1. No need to draft wrist or arm cuffs in sleeves, bias tape is a lovely and simple alternative. 2. Ditch the overlocker or the pinking sheers and use it to finish raw seams on the inside of garments. 3. Use it to make straps, ties and even belt loops. Perfect if you don’t have a loop turner to turn straps inside out. 4. Finishing raw edges like armholes, necklines and even hemming skirts that you don’t want to loose any length off of. 5. Sew both sides of the bias tape to your fabric and now you have a casing for any elastic or drawstrings on your garment. 6. Sewing your bias open, then flipping it over, folding it twice, and sewing shut, makes for an alternative for facing. The bias will be visible on the inside of the garment only. Thought daughter activities 🦢. Let’s sew a dreamy coral silk cotton gown. One of my favourites in my new collection, and definitely not the easiest fabric to sew. It’s extremely lightweight and drapes beautifully, especially with the asymmetrical bias gathering on the bust. But this only makes for a more challenging construction.
