You really have to get up close and personal with the Komatsu PC7000E-11 at Bauma to appreciate the true scale of it. As far as we know it’s the largest excavator brought to a trade show in backhoe configuration. The previous record was held by Komatsu as well with the PC7000 face shovel at Bauma 2016

Building upon its Concept-X and Concept-X2 technologies, Develon introduced "Real X," a next-generation autonomous system. This technology enables Develon crawler excavators to perform tasks such as trenching, bulk earthwork, and truck loading autonomously. Operators can switch seamlessly between autonomous, remote control, and manual joystick modes, enhancing flexibility and productivity on-site. ​

I came across this Brøyt X2 at Maskinexpo in Sweden quite a few years ago. The Brøyt X2 is a pioneering hydraulic excavator introduced in 1967 by Norwegian manufacturer Brøyt. Notably, it featured a unique wheel-based design with two steel and two rubber wheels, enhancing its mobility across uneven terrains. Initially, these wheels lacked propulsion, but later models incorporated belt drives, allowing for self-propulsion. The X2 gained prominence in Scandinavian construction and agriculture, especially in Norway’s Jæren region, symbolizing modern mechanized farming. Over 640 units were produced under a license agreement with Kaldnes Mekaniske Verksted. Despite its innovative design, Brøyt faced financial challenges in the 1970s, leading to the cessation of X2 production by the 1980s.
