Caring for a cat with paresis, like my cat cappy, initially had a learning curve. With almost 8 years of caring for cappy, we have really streamlined our bedtime routine. Cappy's bedtime routine takes less than 12 minutes now. That is a similar time commitment as a dog when you put it in perspective. #disabledcat #inspiration #instagood

An afternoon routine that didn't go as planned. Cappy had an upset tummy and his doo doo had a mind of its own. I spent the following hour cleaning the rug, his new stroller, the pillow, etc then we made a quick pivot to the shower where I rinsed Cappy off. Once Cappy was clean, I cleaned my shower next and started the wash. It was a process. A long process. But this made me realize I hadn't gone through a full Cappy doo doo fiasco clean up in a while!! Like A WHILE. Months in fact? When was the last time I posted a routine with all the doo doo on the floor and cappy? It's been a while! And I think it's absolutely fantastic. That is PROGRESS. Huge Progress. Cappy has gone through so much change in the last few months. He officially completed his 60 day fecal matter transplant. He is officially off his long term steroid (and has been for months). His weight is finally up! His relationship with Hadley is sassy and sweet. He continues to respect boundaries and space with Lemony (it's a sensitive subject but they can't be around each other lol). The only difference that could've caused the upset tummy was perhaps his Daily Digest supplement. I ran out and was waiting for the next order to be delivered. His tummy is back on track, all good things. That was a long winded ramble, but the point of my caption is that Cappy's doo doo disaster routines are few and far between. And that's just AWESOME. Cappy's new sardine mat was a hit 🥹🥲

Investigating cat water for cappy. Cat water is a purified water, with many of the traditional minerals found in tap water removed. It's "softer" as some say. Basically it doesn't have the minerals included that can be a little harder for urinary or chronic kidney disease cats to break down. Our vet has recommended purified water for years to help with Cappy's cystitis, under the assumption it's gentler on Cappy's sensitive body. This works too. ☺️ #catwater #cystitis #petcare

*Advocating at the vet* This was our sedation protocol for Lemony's annual vet appointment. Lemony is extremely fearful when being handled by others. His clinical notes are thorough, colorful, and extensive. He's highly fearful and aggressive upon restraint. He will do whatever it takes to get you out of his space (snap, bite, lunge, bare teeth). Whether it's from his lack of experience or possibly negative experiences, it doesn't matter. His negative cycle stops now. I've been working so hard for the last year on building his trust and establishing baseline routines. Predictable patterns build his confidence, lemony thrives on awareness and understanding. I practiced his muzzle nearly every day since last September. I even took it on our walks and he learned to see the world with it on. He can enjoy treats with his muzzle. He can get ear scratches with his muzzle. And today Im so happy to share that having his muzzle on did not phase him at all!!! It was just another random day wearing it for a little bit at a random place. YAY. And he was devouring his peanut butter. I sort of got upset at myself because Lemony requires sedation in order to be handled, cared for, and physically examined at the vet. But at the end of the day, his list of medical work needed to be done and it wouldn't be possible without sedation. The goal was to minimize his fear, anxiety, and stress, and I feel so proud we were able to successfully accomplish that.

Cappy's new stroller has pockets that are the perfect size for Hadley's on-the-go essentials. He even let Cappy borrow his gentle eye wipes so he could see extra clear for the big adventure hehe. I always keep @earthrated no-rinse shampoo and grooming wipes in my car as a quick way to clean off the dogs after our evening hikes. I use the eye wipes for Cappy too!! Cappy's breakfast: -1 can of Royal canin urinary so calm rx -wet -S. Boulardi probiotic & prebiotic by @animal.biome -Daily digest enzyme blend (this is the TRUE hero for cappy) by animal biome -Add a little cat water @cath20water -BLEND (mine is from Amazon the brand is Hamilton Beach) -Sprinkle a few freeze dried chicken cubes on top for extra crunch @weruva ✨💗 HOPE THIS HELPS 💥For EXTRA context, Cappy's nutritional needs have evolved significantly since last year. After incremental weight loss, while still being ravenous and constantly hungry... my vet and I got into the weeds. She helped me quantify his calories, daily fiber, proteins, etc. We increased his daily calories, cut back on a few fiber supplements, and switched his primary food from hills c/d to royal canin urinary calm wet. I'm indifferent to rx diets (it's great if they work for your pet, it's also fine if they are on something else), but I do think they serve a purpose when certain acute things occur. For example, Hadley recently had a stomach sensitivity issue and his hills i/d wet food worked wonders for a week while we got his tummy back on track. All this to say--// i think it's important to feed your pet what works best for them. Every pet is unique and responds to certain foods differently. For cappy, royal canin urinary so calm has been easy on his tummy while also helping him hit his weight goals. Could another food help him do this too? Probably, but i don't want to rock the boat!

Definitely wasn't on my 2017 bingo card, but it's safe to say the rest is history. Making the decision to adopt cappy in 2017 was one of the most exciting and terrifying moments combined. So many ask how I adopted Cappy or how I found Cappy, his origin story from his foster home to me. And truthfully, a stranger online sent me a DM. That was it. Someone shared the post of Cappy (formerly known as Bubba) and it went from there. I applied, I asked the foster family a lot of questions, l waited. And then my application was accepted and little bb Cappy traveled across the country to find his forever meowmy. His foster parents spent the entire weekend with me, teaching me how to express his bladder and bowels and get all of his medical supplies. I remember how overwhelmed and exhausted I felt that weekend. I was most nervous the night they left and I had to express his bladder all on my own. It was scary, but Cappy was so patient. He's always been so patient through all the care. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect animal. Cappy is my soul cat, I can't believe how it all came to be sometimes.
