What is the difference between the rooms in the Annex now and how they looked when the people in hiding lived there? Unlike the original Annex, the rooms are now unfurnished. After the people in hiding were arrested, the Nazis emptied the rooms. Otto Frank, Anne's father, wanted to keep it that way. Besides the furnishings, do you see any other differences? On 5 July 1942, Margot Frank received a call-up to report for a labour camp in Germany. This served as the signal for Otto and Edith to go into hiding the next day. #annefrank #annefrankhouse #instahistory
Anne Frank hoped the war would end soon, yet at the same time, it felt like an unimaginable reality that might never happen. Writing became her outlet. It was a way to process her fears, dreams, and hopes. She often wondered whether she would one day become a great writer. #annefrank #annefrankhouse #annex #writing #writer

When would life go back to normal? This was the question on Anne's mind during the 761 days she spent hiding in the Annex. Outside, the war continued. When the BBC announced on the radio on 6 June 1944 that ‘D-Day has come’, Anne and the others were filled with hope. With the Allies landing on the shores of Normandy in France, the liberation of Western Europe had begun. Those in hiding hoped that the war would soon come to an end. Margot told Anne that she might be able to return to school as early as October. The war dragged on for longer than expected. It was not until May 1945 that the Allies arrived in Amsterdam. By this time, Otto Frank was the only one still alive, having survived the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp. Anne and the others hiding in the Annex did not survive the Holocaust. #ww2 #WWII #dday #france #history #secondworldwar #annefrank #onthisdayinhistory
While renovation work prepared the museum for the future, Otto Frank’s inspiring words were shown on the fences for everyone to see. Old photographs of the Anne Frank House and its surroundings brought the history of the place to life. The work has now been completed and the fences have been removed. #annefrank #annefrankhouse #ottofrank #amsterdam
